----------------------------------------------------

a special advance promo mix for my Chinese Shadows EP coming out very soon! Featuring an exclusive edit of one of my favorite Fleetwood tracks, "World Turning" from their self-titled album, the first featuring the Buckingham/Nicks lineup. One of my big aims with Night Plane is to cross-wire electronic disco with dark seventies rock - the song "Chinese Shadows" is influenced a great deal by strung-out burners like "Sister Morphine" by The Rolling Stones and "I'm So Afraid," also on the Fleetwood s/t. This mix gets you into some more italo-sinisterisms before absconding from European spy-intrigues for the mysteries of sun-bathed Africa. Look for "Chinese Shadows" on the excellent British label Thisisnotanexit sometime next month!

C.O.M.B.I. - Stone Waters

C.O.M.B.I - Stone Waters

yowza. Rowdy NY disco lords Rub-n-Tug can always be trusted to bring the fire, and their rock-tinged edits in particular, like "I'm a Man" by Chicago, are especially nuts. Along those lines check out this one by half of RnT, Eric Duncan, aka Dr. Dunks - included on his insane hi-octane How We Do In NYC mix he just put out for aNYthing. "Stone Waters" sounds like that Santana-y part of the Rolling Stones "Can You Hear Me Knockin'", only more grooved up and drugged out - blistering brown-acid rock disco. One of the best things I've heard all year. I guess this is an edit? of what?

ginny - can't be serious

Ginny - Can't Be Serious

stone-cold gorgeous cosmic disco classic from 1983, been in demand since it showed up on Harvey's legendary Sarcastic Disco mix. Mountain of One had the good taste to cover it recently, their version is equally dope, but the original is also not to be f*cked with. Beautiful female vocals and twinkling synths over slow-mo grooves, it's a lost classic, not hard to figure out why today's cosmickers jock it so hard. Great if you're down with eloy "horizons," and crystalarian style in general.

a split second - flesh (slow remix)

A brief sub-genre of dance music, New Beat supposedly started in Ghent in 1988 when someone played A Split Second's 'Flesh' at 33 rpm instead of 45. The Boccaccio was the famous ground zero for New Beat, "the Panorama Bar of its day." Playing Wax Trax records slowed down does sound like cosmic industrial music, or metal-machine Baldelli. Or some skynet terminators marching through Houston, lubed up on syrup. Dark, druggy, sweaty and robotic. sun papa 3000's latest mix tells you all you need to know - as a certain mr. lench is fond of remarking, keep it slow.

for further research here's a repost of a fantastic new beat comp, one of my favorites:
